Story
Oh my word, I can't believe that I'm really doing this...I am moving to Haiti for a year, to work as Hope Health Action's Volunteer Coordinator.
This has been a dream that has kept growing in me for the past 2 years, and I'm now at a point where I feel like it's the right time to go ahead with this hair-brained scheme. I'm leaving the UK in January to work in the Caribbean! (when I say it like that it doesn't sound so terrifying).
Hope Health Action (link here) are an incredible charity that I love to pieces. I will be looking after all the volunteers who go out to help them, driving them to work, liaising with the staff at the hospital about what they'll be doing, showing them the sights of Cap-Haitian, and being a support and guide throughout their stay.
However, this role is not paid, and although I have been saving money for this endeavor for some time, I would love and appreciate any help I can get from you fabulous bunch. Here is some more info on what you'll be helping me fund:
Flights! My flights are going to cost me around £2500 for the year
Accommodation: I am paying for my board and lodgings, which is $35 dollars a night for a lovely room, and breakfast and dinner Mon-Sat.
Lunch: About $2 a day from the canteen at the hospital, or from the bakery run by the rehab centre.
Weekends and evenings: This is basically food and fuel, as I will be taking volunteers out on trips which obviously costs me money too! However if we go to the pool I'll pay for that myself, of course!
Anything you can give will be SO appreciated - as you can see, even if you can only give a fiver that gives me lunch for 3 days! Thanks so much, and if you would like to be included in updates on how I'm going do let me know.
Much love,
Pippa
(Ps - if you want to come and visit me let me know - It is an incredible country and I'd love to introduce you to it)

When I first visited Haiti I thought I would absolutely hate it! But seeing what HHA do changed my life- I quit my job and started working for Tearfund, another international aid agency. But staying in the UK wasn't enough, and Haiti still called - so off I go!!
