Crowdfunding is the new way to raise money for a personal cause on JustGiving.
The Scottish Dark Sky Observatory is a registered charity which opened its doors the public in late 2012. Since then we have achieved a VisitScotland 4-star visitor rating and have welcomed visitors from all over the world, educating and informing them about the wonders of the night sky from a location in the Galloway Forest Dark Sky Park.
We now have an exciting plan to build a planetarium here at the Scottish Dark Sky Obsevatory, adjacent to the existing building, and we would be very grateful to receive your much needed help to enable us to cross the fundraising finishing line.
What is a planetarium? It's a darkened room with a high-domed ceiling, upon which we will project images of the night sky allowing immersive views of the stars, constellations and the wider cosmos.
Building this facility will allow much greater use of the observatory during daylight hours, providing an enhanced visitor experience and further contributing to the wide reaching educational scope of the SDSO.
We're also aiming to fund improvements to the observatory's access road.
As a token of thanks, those contributors who leave their name will be featured on a sign/plaque to be affixed to the planetarium.
