Story

We are Kew Playground Campaign and we would like to share with you our story.

On 31st August 2017 Sefton Council made a decision to close Kew Park on Ovington Drive, due to safety concerns after an incident involving a child at another park of a similar age. When he heard of this decision a day later we realised we had to step into action to save our beloved playground. We were told to replace the equipment like for like it was going to cost £50,000.

A few weeks later we managed to secure £30,000 from Sefton Council towards that replacement and went about asking our Kew Ward councillors for a portion of the Ward funds to help make it up to the balance needed. This was done at the Southport area committee meeting where people may have seen in the local media we were treated less than fair, we walked away feeling so bullied and intimidated but also without an answer and without any of the ward funds.

It’s now approaching 6 months on and with new sketches being drawn out to show us what park we can have and still no answer from our Ward Councillors, we’ve decided to ask the kind-hearted community for donations. We’re working closely with Kew Woods Primary School to ensure the children and local community get the playground they so rightly deserve.

Thank you so much for reading our story and for all the support so far!
