I'm raising £750 to support Carents.co.uk!

Story

This year I turn 60, and I've entered a triathlon to mark it. Whether that was a brilliant idea or a terrible one, I'll let you know somewhere around week six of training.

I'm raising money for Carents, and the reason feels personal to me. I work as a Care Consultant. Promedica24 provides live-in care, which means I spend my working life alongside families who are managing the reality of an ageing parent: appointments stack up, prescriptions need collecting, the weekly shop, the worry, the guilt. The son or daughter who is trying to stay present for their parent while the practical demands keep pulling them away from exactly that.

Carents exists for those people. It's a free resource built specifically for adult children caring for ageing parents, and a community of people who actually understand what that role feels like from the inside.

As a social enterprise, it relies on fundraising to keep everything free and accessible, which is why I wanted to use this to raise money for them.

A sprint triathlon is a real physical challenge at any age. At 60, it requires a certain amount of stubbornness. But I've spent years watching families show up for their parents with that same stubbornness, day after day, without any expectation of recognition. This feels like a small way of acknowledging that.

If you can donate, thank you. Every donation will help Carents to continue the work they do to support family carers. And if you know someone who is caring for an ageing parent and struggling to find the right support, please pass on carents.co.uk.
