I've raised £15000 to help us create a state-of-the-art 21st century community space for Pickering and surrounding villages.

Pickering Methodist Church has been at the heart of the community for generations. As well as being a centre of worship we offer vital community accommodation to the people of Pickering and the surrounding areas - Ryedale FoodBank, Potter Hill Playgroup, Guides and Brownies, Family Cinema, Cake and a Cuppa - are just a few of the services we provide.
We are well into an ambitious project, PMC19, to completely redesign and rebuild the rear of the building. This will allow us to continue, and to increase, these services.
We have been fundraising for this for more than 2 years and we are now very close to reaching the required amount. We are now appealing to the local community to help us raise the final few thousand pounds which will allow us to start the building work.
Pickering Methodist Church has provided a place of worship, meetings, concerts, youth clubs and playgroups for the population of the town of Pickering and the surrounding villages. Most people of the town will have had some contact with PMC in their lifetime.
As the town continues to expand and the demand for community space grows, we are becoming increasingly unable to provide any further space - we are turning down requests. The main hall, kitchen and small meeting rooms are well past their best. Because of the layout, we can only run one event at a time so we are losing the opportunity to help the community.
Without this renovation project taking place the facilities we are able to offer may not be suitable for the modern world.
Our plan is to completely redesign the non-worship area to provide a modern standard of facility built to an improved specification and will bring the place up to 21st Century standards for everyone to enjoy. Improvements will include new toilets with better disabled access, new heating and lighting that will reduce fuel costs, a disabled lifting platform to alleviate the problem with the difference in height between the chapel and the rest of the building, a separate meeting room which, with improved circulation space, will allow simultaneous use with the main hall and meet “safe care” standards.
Our aim is to develop a space in which all the people of Pickering will feel keen to share with us. The £15,000 that we are seeking to raise through this campaign will bring us a huge step closer to our overall target, of which we have already raised over 80% through the grants from charities and gifts from friends of the church.
To donate to PMC19 please click on the "donate" button at the top of this page. To keep up to date with the progress of the project we will post regular updates on this page, on our Facebook page and our dedicated website page.
We will be holding regular competitions throughout the campaign via our Facebook page. As well as posting on Facebook, we will update this page when they are open to enter.
Thanks for taking the time to read our story. We hope that you feel you can play a part in helping us make a real difference to our community.
