Story
Backed by science from the UCL Pond Restoration Research Group, the Norfolk Ponds Project has already restored and resurrected over 100 ponds in Norfolk, making them wonderful habitats for farmland wildlife and maintaining water in the landscape all year long.
Currently, the majority of the 23,000 ponds in Norfolk are overgrown and many dry out in summer. By working in partnership with one another and with the support of landowners, we can open these ponds back up, allowing light in for plants, and in turn creating habitat for insects: a food source for farmland birds. Restored ponds provide water in the landscape all year, even in summer droughts, and the ponds are busy with visitors as they act as watering holes. With climate change, we may see more dry summers in the future. By supporting pond restorations in Norfolk, together we can provide a home, water and food for our wonderful native wildlife.
More information about our work can be found on www.norfolkponds.org. This is our first attempt to fund a pond restoration as a collective. Let‘s see what we can achieve together!
