Every poppy tells a story.

Some represent sacrifice. Others represent friendship, courage, and lives cut tragically short.

In September 2026, my friend Neil Kerr and I will be driving a 25 year old Škoda Fabia nearly 2,000 miles from Diss to Sarajevo as part of the Veterans Honour Rally. Our team is called Poppies & Purpose because this journey is about far more than reaching the finish line.

During my 25 years of service in the British Army (1987 to 2012), 702 British service personnel lost their lives on operations. They were colleagues, friends, and for many families, sons, daughters, husbands, wives, mothers and fathers who never came home.

The 702 poppies displayed on our car will represent every one of those lives. They are a visible reminder that behind every number is a person whose sacrifice should never be forgotten.

But remembrance should also inspire action.

After leaving the Army, I founded Street First Aid, a not for profit social enterprise that equips ordinary people with the confidence and skills to save lives in extraordinary circumstances. Whether responding to a serious accident, catastrophic bleeding, or a medical emergency, we believe that the difference between panic and action is training.

Through this challenge, we are raising funds to continue delivering life saving first aid education, particularly to young people, communities, veterans, and organisations that may otherwise struggle to access it.

Every donation, no matter how small, will help us to:

🌺 Deliver free and subsidised Street First Aid training.

❤️ Equip communities with life saving skills and bleed control awareness.

🩹 Provide training for veterans, volunteers and community groups.

🚑 Help more people gain the confidence to act in those critical first few minutes before the emergency services arrive.

Our journey will take us through 12 countries, across nearly 2,000 miles, ending in Sarajevo, a city that stands as a powerful reminder of the devastating consequences of conflict and the enduring importance of peace, resilience and hope.

This rally isn't about speed. It isn't about winning.

It's about honouring those who served, remembering those who never returned, and proving that service doesn't end when military service does.
