Story

Poppy has done incredibly well to be one of a small group of scouts that have been selected to represent South Yorkshire at the World Scout Jamboree in West Virginia, USA in July 2019.

The Jamboree is an incredible opportunity for Poppy to meet with other Scouts from all over the world, and share in a wealth of different experiences, cultures and languages. This is a massive global venture to encourage International Friendship and adventure in young people, in the next generation.

The lead up to the Jamboree is sure to be an intensive whirl of fundraising, teamwork and planning, and we are hoping that you may be able to help with a bit of that!

As well as helping to fund Poppy's place on the Jamboree, the fee for UK scouts also helps to subsidise Scouts from less wealthy areas of the world; so by supporting Poppy you are also supporting Scouts who may be less able to fundraise.

We also feel that this event is incredibly important in the current climate in the USA - it is a joimt venture between the USA, Canada and Mexico, and is a gathering of young people from over 200 different countries, willing to share, learn and work together, and form connections that will hopefully last for a lifetime. We are especially pleased that the Boy Scouts of America have now decided to allow girls to join the organisation!

The lead up to Jamboree and the event itself are sure to bring many challenges for Poppy and her fellow Scouts, but we also believe that this is an amazing opportunity not to be missed - an opportunity to move into young adulthood feeling connected to those in the wider world, aware of the many differences and similarities between us, and forging the skills needed to navigate that reality.

Any donation, however small, or Fundraising contacts and ideas, will be very gratefully received, and we look forward to sharing the experience with you!

Thank you!
