    Story

Over 50k children are living and/or working on the streets in Ghana, a further 1.1 million children are in orphanages.

Children who are removed from their homes because they are in danger are sometimes placed in orphanages located far away from their families and communities they come from.

In 2015 adult literacy rate for Ghana was 76.6%. Since 2000 the increase has been roughly 15% per year.

40% of girls who pass through orphanages and grouped homes end up becoming prostitutes while 45% of boys out of the same facilities become armed robbers, all this is due to the abuse and exploitation they experience.

I’ve visited a few orphanages, I can say with hand on my heart that the CEO and Founder of the Potters Village has a heart of gold.

Mama Jane takes care of almost 150 children daily, she does her best to cater to their needs but the truth of the matter is, she is struggling.

Unlike the UK, there is no infrastructure that includes the government supporting orphanages (or as we know them to be called Children’s Homes).

Most of the younger children are taught on campus and the older children go out to state schools.

Coming from the Western world, I was appalled to see the circumstances these children live in. Needless to say, it was not pleasing and it got me thinking, how can I help, what difference can I make to these young lives.

It may be said that orphanages are not a good place for children, but for these children this is the ONLY home and the only HOPE they will ever have. So I don’t want them to be in the disadvantaged number.

I’d like to help these children to have the basics, food, safety, love and affection, I want them to be happy, educated, I want them to have a great hope for their future but before they get there, they need our help.

100% of all donations will go to the Potters Village so that the children can grow to become independent and productive adults.

At the moment this orphanage is struggling to keep up with pay their rent, they owe almost two years rent and are in danger of losing the roof over their head.

Cost of living is far cheaper than the UK, to house almost 150 children costs Less than £2000, with your help we can keep the roof over these children’s head.
