Story
Dogs in Craiova face a horrible fate, unless they are rescued by Friends for Life, a tiny team of tenacious, but exhausted people who take as many as they can into their shelter. Conditions are pitiful, with a concrete floor and chipboard kennels. Water has to be brought by car each day. In the evening, they go out and feed the dogs still on the street. They do all this on top of their day jobs. Every penny they receive goes to food, veterinary fees and other essentials. They also work with a local charity neutering service. The dogs are rehomed across Europe. When they find a home for one of the lucky dogs, it comes by dog transport service (the "Happy Bus") to the new owner, or sometimes to a UK rescue, where it will have a better chance of finding a home.
The cost of the transport for our two small dogs is £285, and 100 euros for their passports (which includes all the inoculations you would expect a dog to have in the UK, as well as rabies). The rest of the money has already been paid to Friends For Life for food and emergency vaccinations, as there has been a recent outbreak of distemper at the public kill shelter.
The picture shown is of Riff and Syrah, the two dogs we're bringing over to the UK for rehoming from the wonderful Holbrook Animal Rescue, near Horsham, West Sussex.
