The PRECIOUS was launched in 2007 by Foluke Akinlose, founder of PRECIOUS magazine who was tired of going to awards shows celebrating women in business and leadership and not seeing any women of colour being recognised.

The awards now in their 11th year set to celebrate women of colour who may otherwise go unacknowledged. They shine a light on women from across a range of sectors from STEM to the Creative Industries to the legal profession.

Everyone benefits from learning of these roles models.

This is why the role that PRECIOUS plays in highlighting the achievements of women of colour in entrepreneurship, work and community is so important. It demonstrates that despite the barriers, and obstacles we can still achieve great things.

We can look internationally for success stories, but let’s also look and listen to the women of colour in the UK and celebrate. The stories of success are right here – let’s acknowledge them and savour them!
