Story

Me (Preethi Rao) and two of my brave friends ( Samatha Ranganath and Asha Srikanth) (who probably are cursing me!) have taken up the mighty mighty challenge of climbing Mount Kilimanjaro this October!! It is the highest mountain in Europe and Africa, and rises approximately 5,895 metres (19,341 ft) above sea level. This dormant volcano is the world's tallest freestanding mountain. Climbing this mighty mountain will challenge us mentally, physically and emotionally by posing problems like mountain sickness, extreme temperature (ranging between 25 deg to -20 deg), unpredictable weather and lack of basic luxuries of life for the 7 days that we camp and trek the mountain. We have done nothing of this scale and sort in our lives!! Don't ask us why we are doing this....it's too late to look under that rug now. But what we can tell is that we are committed to this challenge and are training towards it intensively. We are giving our best and will literally give every drop of sweat and blood to the mountain.

May we very kindly request you all to support us by generously donating to this charity which is very close to our hearts. This charity is led by Dr. Suresh Rao who is family and over the years we have seen him help so many poor and vulnerable people in so many ways through Sanjeevani charitable trust. I have hereby attached the good work this trust does and the current project of building a hospital in Kateel which is in rural Mangalore. No amount is small amount. We sincerely and whole heartedly thank you in advance for your kindness and generosity.

Lots of love,

Preethi Rao

VISION

Kateel is a rural area in Karnataka well known for Shri Durgaparameshwari Temple. Since the last two decades its population has grown tremendously. Many surrounding villages are easily accessible to Kateel through public and private transport systems.

Kateel today has poor medical facilities. There are no well-equipped hospitals nearby and patients 'have to travel up to Mangalore or Manipal which is nearly 20-

30kms away. Most of the time, during emergencies, there is neither immediate medical help nor even an ambulance facility available locally. So most of the cases cannot even reach the hospital during emergency. Today's concept of Golden hour medical help is practically non-existing. With the Temple tourists increasing day by day and lack of appropriate medical facilities in the vicinity there is definitely a need for a well-equipped hospital at Kateel.

Sanjeevani Trust is very keen to develop a secondary care rural hospital at Kateel for the benefit of needy people of this fast developing rural area.

Keeping the above objective in mind, the Trust has signed an MOU with Manipal Group of Hospitals to construct a 100 bedded hospital with all the diagnostic facilities. The proposal is to have a Casualty Ward, ten Consulting Rooms for visiting doctors, Pathology, X-Ray, CT Scan, Sonography, ECG, 2D Echo and Dialysis Service centers, 4 Operation Theatres, 10 bedded ICU, a Labour Room, an Ambulance service etc. To construct this hospital the Trust has already purchased about

1.5acres of land in a prime location which has main road access and is very close to the Kateel temple and the bus depot.

Sanjeevani Charitable Trust with Manipal University have mutually agreed to give free medical service to at least 15 villages around Kateel for the benefit of economically underprivileged patients. The activities planned under this initiative are as follows:-

•Conducting health checkup camps on Sundays in all the 15 village schools

•Creative, proactive and preventive health checkups.

•Creating family folders for each family in the village.

•Creating awareness of the new hospital which is coming up with all modern facilities.

•Enrollment of every member ofthe village and identifying senior citizens and people below the poverty li_ne.

•Creating awareness about insurance and preparing the insurance cards for each family.

Sanjeevani Charitable Trust along with Aquakraft Projects Pvt Ltd has also launched a programme known as SWACHH KATEEL.

SWACHH KATEEL provides Sanitation, Drinking Water, Community Health and Hygiene in an integrated manner to the above villages through the following initiatives:-

•Provide Clean Drinking Water through aquatm's Water ATMs (Drinking water dispensing machines) at the most affordable unit price to be determined by the users (proposed to start with Rs. 2/- per litre)

•Provide Community toilets with access at the most affordable unit price be determined by the users (proposed to start with Rs. 2/- per access)

•Enable Skill Development through the vocational course SWACHH with successful incumbents being certified as SWACHH BANDHU's & SWACHH BHAGINI's leading to Vocational training and resource building at the grass root intervention level. It is our endeavor to have 2 SWACHH BANDHU's & 2

SWACHH BHAGINI's for every village to be engaged under the MNREGA or NRLM.

•Both aquatm's and aquato's (Sanitation units) will be operator driven. Local Self Help Groups will be identified to manage, operate and maintain the said aquatm's and aqua to's. It will be an endeavor to identify women as operators leading to women empowerment. Part of the process through sale of water and access to toilets will be shared with the operators leading to livelihood creation.

•Access to aquatm's and aquato's will be through smart cards called SWACHH CARDS leading to financial inclusion and literacy

We appeal to you to donate generously to make this dream come true. Your contribution will go a long way in providing much needed medical services to all who need them urgently but are not able to get them due to reasons of non availability of resources and also to those who cannot afford them presently.
