Let's sponsor Bob!

This smiling person (and keen runner!) pictured above is Bob, one of our amazing volunteers at Preston City of Sanctuary. Bob has been running in races for over four years now, and this year he will be representing us at the Great Manchester Run on the 28th of May running the Half Marathon.

This is the first time we will have someone representing us. Bob has been training up to three times every week when he is not organising social and integration activities for refugees and asylum seekers in Preston. He attends St Cuthbert's Church in Fulwood and, along with other volunteers from there and other local churches, he is part of a group called 'Talk English', formed in early 2016, who meet once a week to teach English to asylum seekers and refugees in a friendly, informal and welcoming environment.

We don't usually ask for sponsorship, but we would like your support this time to help us continue our work and reach out to the people in our community. As a small organisation, Preston City of Sanctuary relies on volunteers to run a range of fantastic services for refugees and asylum seekers, from providing English and IT classes, social and cultural events, programmes for employment training and voluntary work through to engaging with the local authorities and public organisations.

All our volunteers offer a genuinely warm welcome, and we know how important this is for a sanctuary seeker who might face destitution or social exclusion. Thank you very much for your contribution; a small amount will make a huge difference!
