Story

Fire doesn't discriminate

On the 9th March 2018 in the old village of Sowton (Exeter UK), Dennis and Gill Price lost their Listed home to a fire, which had started in their neighbour's adjoining property. Both houses had straw thatched roofs, both houses were completely gutted by the fire and have since collapsed into the street. Read the story here (includes video) DevonLive news source. Dennis and Gill were able to grab a few treasured possessions before the fire took control of their home but they lost nearly everything else, including cherished memories from their children.

Dennis suffered a near fatal heart attack over a year ago and had to be treated in hospital after the fire, due to smoke inhalation and the distress caused. Gill is a nurse who cares for the elderly. There is no home insurance, properties with thatched roofs have really high premiums and unfortunately, it wasn't something they could afford, especially after Dennis' ill health. So they've lost their home, their furniture, their memories, their clothes and much more. This fundraising page is to help them replace the items that can be replaced. All monies will be given directly to Dennis and Gill. They are staying at a family member's house until they can find other lodgings. They only have clothes donated by the Red Cross. Emergency funds are needed for the most basic essentials.

Tremendous thanks to Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service who worked for many hours to bring the fire under control.

I have known Dennis for many years through his expertise of Stonehenge. It is my honour to help him and his family in their hour of need. Please help if you can. Thank you xxx
