Updates: 16/11/20: A huge thank you to LexiaUK who are donating funds for 10 book packs and Vision for Education for donating funds for 6 book packs giving us a total of 33 book packs and reaching over £4,000 in donations!

4/11/20 - 17 book packs have now been allocated to schools who expressed interest and they will be contacted this week. The fundraising page will remain open and any further book packs will be allocated as and when possible to remaining schools.

We are working with Seven Stories to recommend and supply great books for primary children of all ages. This includes books by Black authors and illustrators that celebrate cultural diversity as well as incredible Black people in history. We are aiming for the book packs to be distributed to North East primary schools in the Autumn term.

Like many, I have been moved by the news of George Floyd's recent murder and I have spent the past week trying to educate myself further, signing petitions, donating to causes and sparking discussions with others. I've also spent a lot of time wondering how I can ensure that my efforts continue.
As an ex primary school teacher and still working closely with schools, I feel that it is important to start the education of these matters from an early age.

The Macpherson report showed that cultural diversity within the curriculum is one of the ways to prevent racism. At the very least, we need to ensure that teachers and children within schools have access to diverse books which can provide a stepping stone to discussions about race and equality.

School budgets are tight. Please help to fund supplying some of these books to our North East primary schools.
