Update: 16/6:
With what could be the last delivery gone to the hospital last week that brings the total to over 1000 visors printed and delivered!
What an absolute marathon it has been over the past few months setting off new prints 4/5 times a day, maintain printers and generally running about checking them all the time. I have gone through 30 – 40 kg of filament (over 15km) which is enough to take you from the Queen Elisabeth Hospital to the City Centre and back again with plenty to spare!
All this wouldn’t have been possible without the generous donations form you all. So, a huge thanks goes out to everyone who donated in what had been a difficult time for everyone. The response was much, much, more than I expected as I originally set a target of £300 and ended up with just over £3000! WOW!!
What’s next you might ask? The hospital has asked me to pause production now as the cases have now dropped to what must be a manageable level in Scotland and they don’t want any materials going to waste. They have also suggested that we may see a second wave later in the year and if they need more visors they will be in touch. We still have some money left over from the donations so this will fund that later in the year if required. If this isn’t needed, then the remaining money will be donated to the NHS. I’ll update everyone later in the year so they know what happens.
Update 12/4: Wow, just amazing support form everyone!!! Thanks for the ongoing support. I've been printing all day today trying to maximise the output form the printers. I originally intended to use the funding to feed the 2 printers I already had but with the huge generosity from everyone I have personally purchased and donated another printer to feed and increase the capacity. I have also increased the target form the original £300 to £3000 to see if we can get enough to add another printer to the printing power. Thanks again and remember to keep on sharing and stay safe...
As you will know the NHS is already stretched both in terms of staff and supplies and it’s crucial that we help where we can to elevate some of that pressure. Having personally been in the hospital a few times over the past few years I can only praise the NHS staff and want to give something back if I can.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is now getting scarce due to extreme demand, meaning that local healthcare services are finding themselves struggling to protect their frontline staff.
To help I have started using my 3D printers to create face shields that are an essential piece of protective equipment used by medical staff and professionals at the hospital so they can try to stop the spread of the coronavirus.

The first batch will be delivered to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital on the 11th April and I hope to keep those deliveries going as fast as I can print them.
The cost of each print is about £1.50 so if we reach the funding goal we should be able to supply the hospital with about 400 shields (smashed the target so I increased this form the original 200!). In reality they need thousands of these but this will all help. the more money we raise the more I can print.
I’m looking for your support by helping to find the raw materials that are used to create the shields. This typically looks like this.
If you would rather just make a purchase on amazon and arrange delivery then just let me know by reaching out to me directly on Facebook and we can sort something out.
I would like to thank everyone in advance of making any donations as I know it will be going to a good cause.
