Story
Kilipeople.org is a charity that was set up to support the local communities in the Kilinochi district, Sri Lanka; a region that was heavily affected by the civil war. I had the privilege to volunteer for this organisation last summer where I helped in a medical eye camp for those who became visually impaired and/or blind due to the conflict. Working closely with the charity and speaking to the locals I became aware of the massive lack of funding and resources these communities received. Witnessing the lack of access to basic medical care to civilians who have survived a traumatic civil war and have the physical scars to prove it inspired me to try and make a positive change for them. As little as £12 can prevent around 2000 patients from going blind from infected eye wounds. The money raised for this will be used to provide medications, life saving treatments and surgeries as well as practical resources such as a van for transport to the capital where these surgeries happen. Any small amount donated will be appreciated and will make a positive difference.
