As you will be aware the situation in Angola continues and a second extension to the state of emergency has been announced.

Here in the UK, and other international countries we are ok. Our government is providing for those who are unable to work and people have what they need.

We are becoming extremely concerned for the people of Angola. We are well aware that many people including families and children will not have the same support and will be suffering in silence. Many people within Angola rely on their daily work to provide food and shelter for their families. With the country being in a state of lockdown, this makes work impossible. Therefore many people are struggling to provide basic essentials for themselves and their families.

As reported soon after the lockdown was announced, many Angolans are having to defy the lockdown in order to survive.

This harrowing story represents a large majority of people across the country:

"How can anyone stay home without anything to eat?" asked Garcia Landu, a motorcycle taxi driver in the bustling Angolan seaside capital of Luanda. He ventured out to try and earn a living, defying the government-ordered anti-coronavirus restrictions. "We have responsibilities towards our families. We have to go out and get food," said Landu, sporting a helmet in the national red-and-black colours. It's "better to die of this disease or a gunshot than to starve to death," he said. "To starve to death, I will never, ever accept that. I can't".

Therefore we have set up a fundraiser where people can donate money and we will work to get this distributed to those in need across the country.

Estamos ficando extremamente preocupados com o povo de Angola. Estamos bem cientes de que muitas pessoas, incluindo famílias e crianças, não terão o mesmo apoio e sofrerão em silêncio. Muitas pessoas em Angola confiam no seu trabalho diário para fornecer comida e abrigo para as suas famílias. Com o país em estado de bloqueio, isso torna o trabalho impossível. Portanto, muitas pessoas estão lutando para fornecer os fundamentos básicos para si e suas famílias.

Conforme foi noticiado logo após o bloqueio, muitos angolanos estão tendo que desafiar o bloqueio para sobreviver.

Esta história angustiante representa uma grande maioria de pessoas em todo o país:

"Como alguém pode ficar em casa sem nada para comer?" perguntou Garcia Landu, um motorista de moto-táxi na movimentada capital litorânea angolana de Luanda. Ele se aventurou a tentar ganhar a vida, desafiando as restrições anti-coronavírus ordenadas pelo governo. "Temos responsabilidades em relação às nossas famílias. Temos que sair e buscar comida", disse Landu, usando um capacete nas cores vermelho e preto. "É melhor morrer desta doença ou um tiro do que morrer de fome", disse ele. "Para morrer de fome, nunca vou aceitar isso. Não posso".

Por isso, criamos um evento de arrecadação de fundos onde as pessoas podem doar dinheiro e trabalharemos para distribuí-lo aos necessitados em todo o país.
