Story
Dear Friends,
Are you willing to help to provide support to some unprevilged children, promote harmony among different communities and to build a temple in a remote village of war-ravaged eastern Sri Lanka?
Three years ago, during a visit to Sri Lanka, I came across a Temple established in a mud hut in the remote country side near Kantale. The mud hut temple had been established by Ven. Somananda, who funded it with the little salary that he earned as a teacher in a Pirivena. His vision is to bring peace and harmony among the local communities, spread the Buddha's teachings of loving kindness and provide support to the poor villagers of the surrounding area.
Currently, a handful of friends and families are helping to build a permanent building that can be used as a temple Dhamma Shalawa, Sunday school and to provide shelter to the villagers during the heavy rain season as the villagers lose their homes routinely due to floods - this building work is now nearing completion.
A Dhaham pasala(Sunday school) using part of the Dhaham Shalawa which is already functioning with regular attendance of 137 students requires further fundings to keep it operational.
Other work to provide support, including plans to build a Stupa(Dagoba) is underway in this village which believes to be situated in an area with some historical value.
Please visit https://mahawelimahaviharaya.org or contact me directly if you would like to know more about this noble task.
Please help in which ever way you can and share this among with your friends.
Many thanks for your support,
Dharshana
