    Weʼve raised £115 to create a safe educational space for girls ages between 11 -18 years in Sierra Leone. Education is key to empowering young girls.

    Story

    A Girl At A Time is an initiative in Sierra Leone working with girls 11-15 years and 16-18 years and each group has 20-30 girls. The initiative aims to reach over 500 girls. Each group has a mentor, trainer and counsellor and a parent volunteer champion. Creating a safe space for the young girls to come together and engage through peer on peer activities.

    They have session on life skills
    1) Be Safe and sound - wellbeing
    2) Engaging in education
    3) Boosting self Esteem and confidence through empowerment sessions.

    The program will work with mainly girls, parents, and communities to promote wellbeing, education and confidence amongst girls at risk of exploitation. Will run also one off sessions with boys between 11-14 years old.

      Today is the Day of the African Child commonly known as The Soweto Uprising. On this day a group of black students in the townships of Soweto, South Africa began a protest against the compulsory use of Afrikaans as the main teaching language in black schools. Many died as a result of the protests that followed. Education was key to these students. In 2017 many girls including pregnant teens still face discrimination in accessing formal education in many parts of Africa including Sierra Leone. We are raising £5000 for A Girl
