Story

During Hannah's visit to Uganda in April, she observed that many children at the school were experiencing health issues such as fevers, stomach upsets, and typhoid. After discussions with the school leaders, Hannah discovered that families in the local community relied on water collected from a nearby swamp. Previously, these families would pay 20p per jerry can to use a tap (£1/day). However, due to rising food prices and the cost of living, they can no longer afford this option and have resorted to using the swamp as the only way to collect and drink water.

To gain firsthand insight into the situation, Hannah accompanied the children to the swamp after school. Witnessing their journey and the condition of the water highlighted the need for a new water system that would provide clean, safe water.

After obtaining quotes from local water providers, we have identified a solution in a two phase approach:

Phase One (£2500): The initial phase involves the installation of a solar pump and filter system. This system will efficiently draw water from a nearby well, filter it, and store it in a 2,000 litre tank. While this tank may not fulfill the entire community's water needs, it will provide sufficient water for the children to bring home and use for drinking purposes.

Phase Two (£5500): The second phase focuses on constructing a steel structure that includes a 10,000-liter tank and a tap, serving as a sustainable water storage facility. This expanded capacity will adequately meet the water requirements of the entire community.

Thank you for your ongoing support, together we can make a difference.
