    Story

Connor is the most inspirational student I have ever met in my 25 years of teaching. He was diagnosed with a brain tumour in Y7 and after surgery had to learn to walk and talk again. He had months of daily chemotherapy and radiotherapy and was so weak he could only attend school part time. Despite all this, he never stopped smiling and never gave anything less than his best at all times.

One of the things that set Connor apart from his peers is his willingness to get involved and help others. A few years ago the school organised a fun run in aid of the Teenage Cancer Trust and although Connor was quite unwell at the time he still took part. He personally raised over £400 for this event and won the award for the highest contribution.

The cancer returned in Y12 and he had further treatment. The whole school took part in “Wear a Hat Day” that year to raise funds for Brain Tumour Research, in recognition of his ongoing battle. Again, Connor raised more on his own than any other student. The support from students was phenomenal because they were so inspired by his bravery and positivity.

Connor has volunteered for many local organisations and raises money for lots of charities. The photograph shows his Community Champion Award presented by Jade Etherington. It is difficult to know how much Connor has raised personally for charity but it is well in excess of £1000. However, his contribution is much greater than this. He has been very open and honest about his illness and this has helped to break down barriers and enabled young people at school to talk about cancer. He has also shown us the value of living life to the full and grasping every opportunity.

Sadly, Connor's cancer has grown very quickly and he is now in palliative care. No timescale can be given and his mum says that fun and happiness have to be the priority. He loves Lego, trains and music.

All donations are for Project Fun and Happiness.

    Thank you.

Simply wonderful to see so much support for Connor from so many people. Also lovely to see some students from Connor's year group. We are hoping to organise a FUNdraising day at Branston on 10 March and it would be lovely if our former students could pop in to say hello. Details to follow.
