Men can Change

Due to popular demand from numerous organisations including CAMHS and Sandwell Women’s Aid, The Arts of Change (The AOC) have been requested to facilitate a programme to support male perpetrators of domestic violence.

AIMS – of the project

 To offer 80 sessions over 12 months, of at least six sessions per client for up to one hour each per week with a qualified, professional and registered counsellor or therapist.

 To offer a range of therapy and counselling models to suit the client: traditional ‘talking’ models such as Integrative Counselling or Person-Centred counselling and a range of creative arts models including art therapy and dramatherapy

Or

Be offered an 8-week accredited (CPD) programme to teach and train male perpetrators of domestic violence to have a greater understanding of their behaviour, development in self-awareness, empathic regard for others and effective forms of non-abusive communication

Supporting male perpetrators

To support male perpetrators and male victims of domestic violence who have anger, aggressive and anxiety issues and have witnessed emotional, physical or psychological abuse. This equates to 10 clients approximately over a 12-month period.

Content includes

• Why domestic violence occurs?

• An understanding of what constitutes violent behaviour

• ‘Allowing’ participants to offload deep down repressed feelings and emotions in a safe and supportive environment

• Developing men’s capacity to understand the impact of their violence on their partners and children both in the long and short term

ProjectME – MenCanchange will be delivered and managed by The AoC /The Arts of Change and sessions will be flexible in location; some may take place in GP surgeries, community facilities or within the comfortable, modern and relaxing studios of The AoC in central Dudley.

 All sessions for the clients will be totally confidential (unless certain issues are raised within therapy) with no obligation to continue

 All staff are DBS checked and follow strict policies and procedures of the company

 The sessions are totally free of charge but any donations most welcome to support the charity – The AoC Trust.

 Times for seeing all clients will be made flexible, weekdays, evenings and weekends.

 Clients can either self-refer or be referred by family members, friends, support workers, social workers, teaching staff, medical staff and GPs.

 Waiting times average four to six weeks only.
