    Story

    Aims:

    • To raise money for mental health services

    • To let people know it is not weak to seek out help and that mental illness is beatable.

    • To show to the world that to suffer from a mental illness is not a weakness to be judged and discriminated against

    Project Recovery Ride

I have suffered myself and seen others close to me have their lives torn apart by mental health issues. I have known friends too terrified of the repercussions to go and seek professional help. And when they have being put on waiting lists of months and years.

Now I am recovered from my affliction I want to do three things: raise money so those who wish for medical help can have access to it, to show those who suffer it is not weak to seek out help and to show the world that mental illness is not something to be discriminated against.

To do this I am planning three long distance bike rides across Europe, Round the Mediterranean and along that legendary trade route The Silk Road (see maps below and the PRR website, link above) to help raise this money and to allow me to spread my message both through social media and in person.

So just a brief update on how things are going. What I was hoping to be my first proper week of long distance training has been plagued by mechanicals and I'm exhausted from working night shifts however with more time (and hopefully luck) next week I should get into the swing of things. I have also been contacting various local companies looking for sponsorship with equipment to keep the costs down. I've not heard back from anywhere yet but will keep you all posted when I do!

I've cycled since the age of 8 and suffered from depression, anxiety and anorexia in my late teens/early twenties. All recovered now I aim to undertake several long distance bike rides to raise money and help for those suffering from mental illness :)
