Who are the AYDA Foundation?
The Alliance for Youth Development in Africa is a senegalese nonprofit organisation that advocates for improved conditions for the youth to acquire the skills and confidence to excel in school and continue education. Together, we believe that insufficient education is a the root cause of many problems later in life, such as under-developed communication skills, poor health-related habits, a lack of knowledge, confidence and thus motivation to continue school.

2 construction / renovation projects
Total cost: £10,640 (£5640 already raised off-platform)
Any additional funds will be used for a much needed renovation of a smaller school.
1) Construction of new orphanage / boarding school in Ngallele
WHY: Currently, there are 91 talibés (orphans) being taught here, with 25 that live at the school, but they have to pay to sleep in a nearby building. Once construction is complete, the boarding school will be able to welcome up to 150 talibés with quality and safe accommodation. It will have water and electricity that can be used to study after dark.
A perimeter wall is also required for the talibés' safety and privacy, especially as cows and wild dogs currently walk through the space at their leisure.
We will build:
• 2 bedrooms, each 4 square meters
• A perimeter fence on all four sides, each side measuring 20 meters:
• A water tap
• Electricity installation
Materials needed:
(1) Cement, (2) Sand, (3) Reinforcing steel bars, (4) Corrugated iron for the roofs, (5) Wood for the roofs, (6) Wooden doors for the rooms, (7) Iron door for the main entrance, (8) Paint, (9) Tiles, (10) Two trees for the courtyard, (11) 2 Electric Fans for bedrooms for the heat, (12) White concrete for finishing
Workers:
• Mason
• Brick-layer
• Tiler
• Carpenter
• Electrician
Project cost:
• 2 x 1,500,000 per bedroom
• The perimeter walls plus the entrance door are estimated at 3,000,000, including all materials and labor costs
• Total 6,000,000 CFA (£7980)
2) Roof-building and renovation of school
WHY: The roof is completely unfinished - meaning when it rains, both classrooms stop teaching. Also the construction was not well finished, meaning it is dangerous and is a very sub-optimal learning environment.
We will build:
A new concrete roof (won’t need replacing like corrugated iron)
Renovate well into 2 quality classrooms, including paint.
Materials needed:
(1) Iron, (2) Cement, (3) Sand, (4) White concrete for finishing
Workers:
Mason
Laborer
Project Cost:
The total cost is 2,000,000 CFA francs (£2660)
