- Yorkshire 3 Peaks
- Funded on Friday, 5th October 2018
Crowdfunding is a new type of fundraising where you can raise funds for your own personal cause, even if you're not a registered charity.
The page owner is responsible for the distribution of funds raised.
On 21st July I will be Taking on the Yorkshire 3 peaks challenge in order to raise funds in support of the charities outlined below, I have had to set this up as a crowd fund page as not all of them are registered with Just Giving. All proceeds will be split evenly between the four charities.
Firstly a little bit about the Charities:
Sunshine For Sumner:
Sumner Malik, one of a triplet and one of the brightest and bubbliest young squash players alive, has been diagnosed with a Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG). DIPG is a terminal, paediatric form of brain tumour.
There are only 40 cases of DIPG diagnosed a year in the UK but every one of those is a tragedy with no confirmed cure and a non-existent survival rate.
There is hope out there though with lots of doctors and hospitals around the world carrying out pioneering research into ways of treating this disease, with a few offering cutting edge treatments on compassionate grounds. These treatments though are unfortunately very expensive and every bit of help is needed to meet the costs.
Teenage Cancer Trust:
Around seven young people aged between 13 and 24 are diagnosed with cancer every day in the UK. They need expert treatment and support from the moment they hear the word ‘cancer.’ Teenage Cancer Trust are the only charity dedicated to making this happen.
They create world-class cancer services for young people in the UK, providing life-changing care and support so young people don’t have to face cancer alone.
Slavery is an umbrella term for activities involved when one person obtains or holds another person in compelled service.
Someone is in slavery if they are:
forced to work through mental or physical threat
owned or controlled by an 'employer', usually through mental or physical abuse or the threat of abuse
dehumanised, treated as a commodity or bought and sold as ‘property’
physically constrained or have restrictions placed on his/her freedom
Friends of Kera:
They are small charitable organisation setup to help improve and provide necessary support to lives of less fortunate children and young people and fight alongside them for a better future.
The charity was founded by Kishore Nardani who has been working and serving less fortunate children and young people in remote areas of India and Africa for over 20years. Before official registration, charity work and donations were raised by group of Friends and family members as a private club. Over time, as more donations kept coming and a need to register as an official charity was required and registration took place in 2007 to have a team of board members to help manage and run the charity.
Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge -
The Yorkshire Three Peaks route is 24 miles (38.6km), and includes 1585m (5200ft) of ascent.
The Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge takes on the peaks of Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough, usually in this order, and in under 12 hours. These peaks form part of the Pennine range, and encircle the head of the valley of the River Ribble, in the Yorkshire Dales National Park.
