Story

Tom and I are aiming to complete the Dun Laoghaire Ironman 70.3 on 19 August. To make all this effort worthwhile we're also hoping to raise some money for Propel Education and its work in the Linda Community School in Zambia. Propel Education is funding the provision of new education programmes in Linda which give students access to the Khan Academy through tablets. Students volunteer to take part in after school programmes where coaches assist them in completing math based tutorials on tablets. This programme has now been running for a year and the uptake by students has been incredible.

All proceeds raised will go towards the continued funding of the e-learning programme in Linda and the improvement of facilities in the school generally.

Linda Community School is located in a compound on the outskirts of Lusaka. Its home to more than 20,000 people in poor living conditions. The AIDs impact had a devastating effect on the community leaving thousands of orphaned children. Since 2002 the school has grown from 2 classrooms to a secure school complex with 12 classrooms, 2 science labs, a library and computer lab mainly thanks to outside donations. The attending students has grown from 400 to 1800 and the teach faculty from 2 untrained community teachers to 21 government trained teachers and 4 community teachers.

If you have any questions or would like to know more about the Linda Community School or Propel Education, please contact me.

Thanks
Chris
