Story
We are a group of residents from Stamford, Lincolnshire who have come together to protect our much-loved green space on the Stamford-Rutland border from housing development. Protect Quarry Farm is our campaign name, led by local resident Carys Vaughan and supported by several local Councillors including Amanda Wheeler, Chair of Stamford's Climate Action Group.
There is limited support for the proposed development of 650 homes on the Quarry Farm site; the developer's own survey confirmed 79% of local people were not supportive of their plans. People are rightly concerned about the loss of greenspace and the candidate wildlife site within it, the additional 800-2000 vehicles on our local roads and the demands of another 1200 people on our already over-subscribed schools, dentists and doctors surgeries. They are also concerned that the planning decision (and council tax revenues resulting from the development) sits with Rutland County Council, rather than our elected Councillors in South Kesteven.
To fight developers, we need to submit strong, evidence-based objections to their planning applications. Our target of £6k will pay for the services of an independent Planning Consultant to support us in doing just that. With an outline planning application for Quarry Farm imminent, we need to achieve our target by the end of March 2022 in order to get expert advice in time.
We will give our time and energy to ensure the voice of local people is heard in planning applications. We need you as friends, residents and local businesses to help us do this by donating whatever you can.
