Defibrillator Fundraiser

Pontefract Rugby Union Football Club

Our Community Rugby Club based in Carleton, Pontefract are raising funds to install life-saving medical equipment. Our aim is to house a state-of-the-art AED (Automatic External Defibrillator) on the external walls of the clubhouse to serve the Club’s Members, Families, Opposition, Visitors and its Local Community.

Housed externally making it available to all players, parents, local community and businesses, the fully automated unit will provide simple audio instructions that allow its use even by those with no medical experience. A small donation will go a long way to make a potential crucial difference.

Similar funding has recently been achieved for a local Sport and Recreation Charity for their Sport Facility only a few miles away from the club which within weeks of install, the defibrillator helped save a customers life who went into cardiac arrest in the changing rooms.

The funding will allow for the unit to be housed in a Public Access Unit, installed on the external walls of the clubhouse building which is located on Moor Lane, Carleton, Pontefract in a densely populated residential area. The Rugby Club is also frequented regularly by the local community be it participating in Sporting Events, spectating or visiting for social occasions such as the licenced premises or children’s play area with thousands of visitors each year.

The club hosts 4 open age teams including an Over 35s VETS side, 6 mini teams from Under 7s through to Under 12s, 4 Junior Teams from U13’s to U16’s along with 3 Girls Only teams. The club provides 3 Rugby Pitches, a Children’s Play Area, Café, Licenced Bar and Meeting / Party Rooms.

Pontefract Rugby Union Football Club have already received “fantastic member and local feedback” about the potential install of a defibrillator, including those who know someone who is vulnerable due to their medical history.

We are already working with the Yorkshire Ambulance Service (Y.A.S.) gaining advice and support throughout the fundraising, purchase and install.
