Weʼve raised £1,101 to support the great north childrens hospital

    Newcastle upon Tyne, UK
Funded on Saturday, 8th September 2018

    What is crowdfunding?

Crowdfunding is a new type of fundraising where you can raise funds for your own personal cause, even if you're not a registered charity.

The page owner is responsible for the distribution of funds raised.

    Story

We are entering the UK Truck Pulling Championship to raise some money for the childrens hospital at the RVI in Newcastle in memory of AJ Stephenson.

This will require intense training and a maximum effort combined with good luck but hopefully we can raise some money for a good cause as result.

    Background

On the 29th October 2017 AJ Stephenson passed away in the RVI hospital in Newcastle. He fought for a number of years against rare and complicated medical conditions. In April 2017 we thought there was new hope when AJ was given the gift of a Double Lung transplant but unfortunately died 6 months later due to some exceptionally rare complications from the transplant.

AJ was a warrior, to see the character of my son the words from his head teacher at his funeral says everything - http://ajstephenson.me/aj-funeral-eulogy-mr-baines/

In trying to deal with whats left after AJ has gone I have found myself using the gym as a way to focus my frustration and pain and in training with my good friends Dave Sparks and Jack Allen we have decided that Jack and I will attempt to focus our training at a challenge which will allow us to give something back to the amazing people at Great North Childrens Hospital who have done so much for AJ over the years.

The challenge is that we are going to enter the UK Truck Pulling Championships at the end of August and use our training to try to raise some money to donate to this good cause. Jack and I are both big lads so we will also try to lose some weight on the way. I think the challenge is to lose 17+kg in 15 weeks and also compete in the Truck Pulling Event and just smash the hell out of it like AJ would expect.

To get an idea of what truck pulling is all about check out this video from the 2016 event.

I hope you find our story interesting or inspiring and you would like to support us on the way, any donations are very welcome. Ill try to setup regular comms about our progress.
