Story
Hira Mony has been stitching clothes everyday for the past 16 years for western consumers. As a result of Covid-19, people have stopped buying clothes and Hira is out of work. Hira is one of over 2 million workers in Bangladesh who are all facing a similar position.
Over 2 million workers have lost their jobs in the past month, this number continues to rise. With no income, these workers are unable to buy food and therefore face imminent risk of starvation for themselves and the several dependants they provide for.
Donations often have huge leakage and very little money ends up in the hands of people that truly need it. We started this journey by donating rice, lentils and potato to 1,000 families but realised that this puts more people in the distribution channel at very high risk. Direct cash payment is the most valuable asset for these individuals at this stage.
At PWF we have made the system completely transparent so you can see how much money has been paid to each worker and the donors name.
Help us help you to stand beside these vulnerable workers in their time of need. If you would like to get further involved in this initiative, or the longer term work of PWF please do reach out to us.
