Story

So you may be aware that I am attempting to cycle from our home in Skegness all the way to Queens Medical Centre in Nottingham to raise money for the Paediatric intensive care and Paediatric High dependency unit in memory of our daughter Dottie.

Dottie sadly passed away 8 days before her 1st birthday having spent all of her life in hospital, most of which was on the intensive care ward or the high dependency ward.

The journey from our home to QMC was one that I know well and I completed regularly , sometimes as much as 5 times a week as I was still continuing to work and help care for our then 3 year old alongside Jade's Mum ( who was a life saver).

It was a 180 mile round trip, just as fuel prices hit £2 a litre. We were on our knees both financially and mentally with what we were coping with. The phonecall from Jade telling me get to hospital quick because your daughter was dying and not knowing what her condition would be when I got there haunts me to this day. 💔

Whilst we were on the critical care ward we discovered that although the staff were amazing, the ward was outdated in places and the playroom was the only place that many of the children and families were able to be relax in , knowing help was just a shout a way.

We would love to help update the ward and provide more sensory equipment and opportunities for families to be together and make precious memories, because for some of us that is all we have left. 💔

The ride will be 90 miles and roughly take 8 or 9 hours of cycling.

This will be a mammoth challenge and will be painful to complete, however only a 10th of the pain that Dottie experienced during her short life, yet continued to smile and show us what love really was.

She was my true rainbow warrior and so glad she chose us to be her parents.

She made us smile, even if it was just for a little while 💔
