Story

Sgt. Matiu ‘Matt’ Ratana, 54, of the Metropolitan Police Service, was tragically shot and killed at Croydon Custody Centre on Friday 25th September 2020.

Police officers perform a dangerous and at times thankless job, to keep us safe. Every day they see the worst of society’s choices, they run towards danger, they tolerate hideous abuse, and sometimes make the ultimate sacrifice.

As the tragic events in Croydon became known, members of England Freemasons Rugby were united in shock and sadness by the appalling incident.

Matt was a huge rugby fan. He was the head coach of East Grinstead RFC. As fellow members of the rugby family, we are now raising money to show our appreciation for the time he committed to the sport, for the hard work and the bravery, and the ultimate sacrifice Matt endured to protect all of us.

All money raised will go to Matt’s family.
