Weʼve raised £3,130 to support a number of incredible charities in memory of David Smith who died of pancreatic cancer aged just 37 in January 2015.

Funded on Thursday, 28th September 2017

    Story

On 9th and 10th September 2017, 13 hardy mums and dads from Knowle C of E Primary Academy (Katy, Chris, George, Dave, Marc, Mark, Ruth D, John, Kat, Nick, Hannah, Ruth J and Kev) will be tackling approx. 95 miles of the Hadrian Wall cycle route, running from Bowness on Solway in the West to Tynemouth in the East. The goal is to complete the challenge in two days and in time to meet a couple of fellow dads completing the Great North Run on the same day, where we'll compare notes on our adventures over a cheeky Newcastle Brown Ale or 3!

Navigating some tricky ascents and the best (or worst) of the weather the north of England can throw our way (along with praying no one gets a puncture...), we believe the challenge will be akin to bringing up our beloved offspring over the last few years (lack of sleep due to over-excitement, working to achieve something which at times seems frankly impossible, dealing with regular tantrums, etc etc) so we'll be looking to put our parenting skills to good use in getting us to the mouth of the River Tyne...

In completing the challenge (bearing in mind some of us have barely ridden a bike in the past few years, though training (for most of us!) has now started in earnest), we will be raising as much money as possible for several amazing charitable causes in memory of David Smith, a fellow dad who was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer in 2012 and passed away in January 2015 at the age of just 37 years old; namely Macmillan, Marie Curie, Pancreatic Cancer UK.

Please support us in the challenge by donating; every penny will be hugely appreciated in getting us all from one side of the UK to the other in one piece!
