Story

In February I will be travelling to Iloilo, Philippines, with the amazing Work the World team to complete a four week midwifery placement as part of my degree.

In Iloilo I will be volunteering alongside the midwives and doctors working in a very busy unit. During the placement I will be caring for women who are having to share beds due to shortages, and looking after babies with abnormalities which are less common in the UK. I will be spending my time between the labour ward, pre and postnatal care as well as volunteering within the young parent unit within the hospital. In Iloilo I am likely to encounter women with medical complications which are not as common within maternity care in the UK including HIV and TB.

My elective is self funded and I would greatly appreciate any contributions which will go towards any resources I will be taking with me to use or to donate to the hospital as well as going towards the cost of the trip.

Thank you in advance for your help and support.
