Next February I am joining a group of people to travel to Sierra Leone, Africa for 2 weeks to help and support the communities badly affected by the recent Ebola crisis. I have aspired to go to Sierra Leone since I was 12 years old and have wanted to try and improve their lives in any way I can.
During the 2 weeks I am out there, I will be travelling to remote villages to work in schools and orphanages to help teach and support children and young people. The majority of these children's lives have been changed dramatically due to Ebola with many of them losing their entire families. This means they are unable to go to school and get the education that they desperately want. We will take vital supplies to them such as clothes and school stationary and I hope to help improve their lives as much as I am able.
We also spend time in Freetown, the capital of Sierra Leone and Bo, the second largest city, in the slums to try and provide the people who live there with basic and essential needs that everyone is entitled to, but these people unfortunately do not have access to. We are aiming to try to and ensure that as many people as possible are able to gain access to clean water and safe housing.
I know it will be an incredible experience to meet amazing new people and build close relationships with communities I would not have the opportunity to meet normally.
In order to go to Sierra Leone, I have to raise £1600 to fund all expenses. This includes all travel and accommodation costs, as well as vital supplies for the communities.
