Story
Beautiful Millie is almost three years old. Millie is autistic and non-verbal. At the moment Millie cannot communicate. She’s has the most beautiful soul and the happiest outlook on life and enough energy to make a Duracell bunny jealouAny
Millie cannot seem to sleep more than three to four hours in a 24hr period. She finds falling to sleep (and staying asleep!) incredibly difficult. This doesn’t bother her thankfully, but for everyone else in the family it is incredibly difficult and disruptive. This is a common trait of autism. Unfortunately, every direction the family turn desperate for some support and help, it just seems to get further away. All charities they have contacted so far are unable to assist as Millie as she is not ‘officially’ diagnosed yet. Sadly, the waiting list for ASD in Carmarthenshire is currently around the 5/6 year mark. OT in Glangwili will not help and are very obscure about when they will 😫 Millie is on her third sleep training guidance from specialists and the family have tried literally everything but still no improvement.
Another common trait of autism is that Millie has no sense of danger and is a huge sensory seeker. She loves to climb anything and everything and enjoys the thrill of falling. Millie needs 24/7 supervision in the nights as she has previously dislocated her shoulder jumping from a height. Everything as much as possible is removed from the room to keep her safe but this doesn’t stop her climbing on to the windowsill and diving off! She also enjoys biting whoever is on the ‘night shift’ 🙈
When Millie is awake in the night, she climbs and jumps off the windowsill, takes the electrical socket safety covers off and put her tongue in. Millie’s Mami has been off work for the past nine months because of the physical and mental turmoil of this.
This is a fundraiser to raise money for a safe space for Millie in the nights. Somewhere where no harm can come to her, which leaves her family get some much needed rest.
The typical ‘safe space’ bed is completely out of budget at a whopping £9k. We are going to try and make our own with foam walls and the windowsill blocked off by Perspex. The fire department has agreed that they will come and check that it is safe for Millie.
Any donation however small would be a massive help for this family. Thank you x
