Story

Medical Volunteer In Bali!!!

This August I will be taking part in a once in a lifetime opportunity with Plan My Gap Year, by volunteering in Bali. As many of you know I am a second year Nursing Student at Kingston University, and have absolutely loved being involved in the treatment and care of patients, within the hospital and in the community whilst on placements. I have learnt so much over the past two years and have developed in all areas, mainly in clinical skills and improvement of my interpersonal skills.

I have chosen Bali as the population offers a wide range of diversity of cultural, social and economic backgrounds. Indonesia's healthcare system varies considerably compared to ours, in that the healthcare is mostly private for the wealthy and those who are in severe poverty, so many people fall in between without any proper medical provisions. It is important to me that I get to witness how different healthcare systems around the world work before I qualify, to better my knowledge as a nurse and witness how lucky we are with the equipment and medical research we have.

My main aims of this trip is to learn a different way to nursing through professionals and patients in a country less economically developed than my own, gain confidence speaking to individuals where communication is compromised and provide care to those who need it most.

The total cost of my trip is approx. £2,000 which I aim to make through fundraising and working my butt off. The money raised on this page will help me pay for the medical programme out in Bali and to keep me afloat whilst I am there.

Any donation is much appreciated!

Thank You!
