Why I’m Jumping Out of a Plane: A Leap for the Volunteer Centre West Berkshire

As the CEO of the Volunteer Centre West Berkshire, I’ve had the privilege of witnessing the power of community in action—of seeing how volunteers can change lives, lift burdens, and bring hope where it’s needed most. Every day, we see the difference our services make, from providing mobility solutions to those in need, supporting charities in the recruitment of volunteers and advice, training and networking events.

But now, it’s time for me to step (or rather, leap) up in a very different way.

That’s right—I’m jumping out of a plane.

Not because I’m an adrenaline junkie (I’m really not), and not because I’ve always wanted to tick skydiving off my bucket list (though I suppose now I can!). I’m doing this to raise funds for the Volunteer Centre and to keep our vital services running.

We’re facing increasing demand in a time of tightening budgets. And while I don’t mind heights, throwing myself out of a perfectly good aircraft at 10,000 feet is definitely not something I’d usually sign up for. But that’s exactly the point.

I believe leadership is about showing up—and sometimes, that means putting on a jumpsuit, harnessing up, and quite literally leading by example.

So I’m asking: Will you join me?
