Story

I've always been passionate about wildlife and have fond memories of feeding the birds, my favourite was always the little robins, we also had a stream in our garden and a kingfisher that I claimed as my own.

Since moving to a remote island I have become much more aware of my surroundings, I have met some amazing people who have taught me many things about these wonderful creatures and I hope I have found my way to give something back.

I was shocked to learn of the mistreating illegal trapping and killing of birds such as Robins, Swallows, Gold Finches and Thrushes, I share my island home with. I was told of the Committee Against Bird Slaughter (CABS) and there tremendous efforts to combat this.

Hunters, poachers, trappers and animal traders all represent a severe threat to our migrant birds along the whole of their migration routes. The Committee Against Bird Slaughter (CABS) is committed to a better protection against the persecution of these birds throughout Europe.

Last year over 8,000 bird traps were located and seized and over 100 poachers faced prosecution.Since the beginning of March, there have been a total of 10 separate missions in Italy, Malta, Cyprus and Lebanon with about 90 participants from all over Europe. A total of 305 limesticks, 80 snap traps, 37 nets and 13 cage traps has been dismantled. 31 poachers have been arrested, 5 firearms and 400 cartridges were seized and more than 300 birds released, that's an amazing amount of work and an huge difference made.

I have previously taken part in 2 half marathons over the last few years and so I have decided to up my game, not only will I be taking myself off of the comfort of the roads and on to the trails but I will be participating in 2 of Devon's hardest half marathons in the space of 2 weeks!!!! So please wish me luck and donate what you can.

I hope that my efforts will make a difference.
