In November 2017 I will be climbing to Mount Everest's base camp, a trip I am fully funding myself, and will be using this experience to raise awareness of and funds for the Duke of Edinburgh scheme at Weatherhead High School.

The pupils at Weatherhead have the opportunity to participate in Duke of Edinburgh at the Bronze, Silver and Gold award levels. The scheme is entirely voluntary for the students and relies upon contributions from volunteers, teachers and parents keep the programme running.

The Duke of Edinburgh awards provide an extra curricula opportunity for young people to develop their social awareness and community participation through volunteer work, as well as their skills and physical fitness through hobbies and activities such as orienteering. .

I am a former pupil and head girl of Weatherhead and so this organisation is close to my heart. As a volunteer now on their Duke of Edinburgh programme I have seen first hand how it can enhance young peoples lives as well as their CVs!

The funds we raise as part of my Everest Quest will go toward providing new equipment such as back packs for the pupils to use on their outdoor assessments. Good quality equipment is essential to make the journey practical and safe.
