Story
Who are we?
We are Ragtag Arts & Community Scrapstore - a lively arts hub in Kendal with passion for creativity and sustainability. Our motto is Reduce, Create and Play. Home to a vibrant craft café, community scrapstore, ceramic studio, and artist spaces, we also host workshops and events, and offer creative workshops externally to festivals, schools and communities across the North West. Ragtag Arts is a CIC (community interest company)
Introducing our ReMake Appeal
We run a unique initiative called the ReMake volunteer scheme. It enables individuals with additional needs to gain workplace skills, confidence, and a sense of community in a 'safe' environment through volunteering in our scrap store. We started the scheme to address the serious lack of suitable work experience opportunities for this vulnerable group. This is a serious issue that effectively bars them from the workplace and leaves them at increased risk of long term unemployment, social isolation, and mental health issues. This video tell you all about the project
Through ReMake, we provide dedicated support staff for our volunteers so they receive the guidance and resources they need to succeed. The work they do at Ragtag is tailored to their abilities, helping them grow their skills and confidence. Every volunteer plays a valuable role, and Emily, one of our amazing volunteers, explains perfectly the difference that ReMake brings to her life:
“I’ve been a volunteer here for 7 years, I feel part of the family here. It gives me responsibility, I feel important, I feel safe and sound like home” Emily, ReMake Volunteer
Become a ReMake Sponsor
We urgently need more funding to meet the staffing and operational costs of the scheme so we can sustain it and expand it to support more volunteers like Emily. So, we’re inviting you to become a ReMake sponsor.
By becoming a ReMake sponsor, you’ll be doing more than supporting a project - you’ll be transforming lives, fostering inclusion, and creating opportunities for growth and independence. You have the power to make a lasting difference to the lives of individuals with learning disabilities. The funds we raise through sponsorship will enable us to provide our volunteers with: Mentorship ; Tailored training; Essential resources ;A fully-accessible, supportive environment
Please donate via just giving or get in touch.
