The outlook for stray animals in Bosnia is as bad as anywhere on earth. The country has never really recovered since the end of the Balkans War and stray dogs and cats bear the full brunt of a country in trouble.

The Rainbow Shelter

My wife Nina and I recently found Udruga Duga (in English, "Rainbow Shelter") which is based in Livno close to the border with Croatia. Udruga Duga is frankly in the middle of nowhere as the proprietor (Tinka Anic) has been hounded out of previous farms/shelters in the worst possible ways. Forgive the pun.

For more on the facility see: The Rainbow Shelter. The update is that since this page was created Tinka has double the dogs and cats. All of them are beautifully looked after and need "forever homes" (more than 30 dogs and 8 cats that actually get on!).

What do we want?

We need your help to feed and home the strays for the next 12 months. We also want to start to place some of the animals with "forever homes" back in the UK. £15,000 goes a long way in Bosnia. We'd greatly appreciate any donations large or small.

Nina and I have been involved with rescue work in Dubai but the scale of the problem in Bosnia is quite possibly an order of magnitude worse. Nina and I with our families will do the outreach but we need to cover the costs of the Rainbow Shelter so that Tinka can concentrate on the welfare of the cats and dogs. 100% of the money will be directed at the welfare and the placing of the animals.
