Due to an unforeseen issue with funding, we are now in the position that we may have to close our doors forever. We are a children's charity that look to help the most vulnerable children in society. Without us, these young people will have nowhere else to go. I can say that because we are the only charity of its kind in the UK.

The Rainbow Youth Centre looks to help children who present as LGBT and children living with mental health issues such as depression, anxiety, loneliness, self-harm and more... by creating and managing a safe space for them. In almost every element of their lives, these children see the worst humanity has to offer, they are bullied at school for being gay, trans or if they have anxiety or panic attacks, in many cases they come from a home that does not accept them for who they are, being a child who presents as LGBT is not automatically a risk factor for poor mental health however evidence shows us that LGBTQI+ young people are more susceptible to mental health problems, including depression and anxiety, self-harm, and suicidal thoughts.

An in school report (secondary School with children aged 12-16) found that 52% of LGBTQI+ young people reported self-harming & 44% of the LGBTQI+ young people surveyed reported suicidal thoughts, nearly half of children and young people who identify as LGBTQI+ are subject to bullying in school & are more likely to experience hate crimes or act of violence compared to heterosexual people. Identifying as LGBTQI+ can lead to children and young people feeling isolated and on the outside of friendship groups at school or external clubs. They can struggle with finding friendships where they feel accepted and comfortable. Young people who identify as LGBTQI+ can be rejected by their family and support network, which leads to homelessness - 1 in 10 LGBTQI+ young people have had to leave home for reasons relating to their sexuality or gender identity.
