Help fund the education of the girls attending As-Siraj School for Blind Girls this Ramadan.
100% of donations go towards funding As-Siraj School for Blind Girls, which is a fully donation-funded boarding school for refugee blind girls in Istanbul that was established in February 2022 by As-Siraj Foundation for the Blind, a UK registered charitable organisation.
There are 15 students receiving an education and receiving rehabilitation courses to help them live well with their disability and to open up future opportunities through education for them.
They learn:
- How to read and write Arabic Braille, some are also learning Turkish and English Braille
- How to use electronics, including computers and smartphones
- Mobility – moving around independently
- Essential daily life skills, including personal hygiene, cooking and meal preparation, use of public transport, and money management.
The school has been able to achieve exceptional success with the girls and is making a difference in their lives, Alhamdulillah. Since last September, one of our students started university in Turkey, where she is studying Islamic Studies. We also have 3 students preparing to sit the International Baccalaureate, with the aim to start university in September 2024, InshaAllah.
Crowdfunding from generous benefactors and donators has fully funded the running of the school so far. The cost of running As-Siraj School for Blind Girls from April 2024 to April 2025, will be £46,000:
- £15,000 for all living and schooling expenses for the 15 students
- £13,000 annual rent for the school grounds and building
- £4,000 annual costs of utilities
- £14,000 staff salaries for 1 year
£1000 covers the total costs of a single student’s living and schooling expenses while she is at the boarding school for 1 year.
£83 a month covers a student’s full board and education expenses.
We encourage donors to support the school by donating any amount towards the total annual cost of running As-Siraj School for Blind Girls, which is £46,000.
We also encourage generous donors if they can sponsor one girl’s education at As-Siraj School for Blind Girls to make a huge difference in her life and future, sponsoring 1 student is £1000 per year (£83/month).
