Story

Heavy rain and hill water from India has caused major flooding in parts of Bangladesh. The water rose 180cm above danger level. The people of Bangladesh desperately need our help.

My hometown, Moulvibazar, has been heavily affected by the flooding. Many homes have been completely submerged under water. People waded through floodwater neck high, to dry land or alternative shelter. At least four people have died, but there are still many people that are missing. Thousands of people are stranded without food, water and shelter. The flooding has caused many crops and fish farms to go under water, depleting the sources of income for many families in the long term.

Shaina Begum, a mother of six young children, is a family friend that has been severely affected by the flood. Her house was hit by floodwater at 1am, causing her home to be swept away. With a roof no longer above her and her family’s heads, they waded through the flood holding onto one another to my family home for shelter. Shaina has no home to go back to and will need help starting again from scratch.

Bangladesh is a very poor country and people struggle every day to provide basic essential needs for their families and themselves. This devastating flood has only exacerbated the problems people are facing. People have lost everything from their belongings to their loved ones. I would like to raise money to provide immediate aid in the form of dry food, water and clothes, and if enough money was raised, I’d look to provide people with the means to rebuild their homes.

Any donations would be greatly appreciated, no matter how big or small.

Thank you for taking the time to read and support this campaign.
