We are raising £20,000 for our friends in Nepal caught up in the disaster. Everyone will be horrified by the videos of walls of water destroying everything in their path.

Our friend, Sunil’s village was completely destroyed with the loss of 165 of his relatives and friends. We met him when trekking in the Langtang in 2011 and he has arranged other treks for us.

He writes: “Its horribly massive disaster. As I study permafrost for my PhD, this scale of disaster was never imagined in my home valley. I can not comprehend the scale of this disaster. I plan to go to Nepal and be with my family and community. My parents and family survived as they were in Kathmandu. I am grateful that they are alive. Else everything feels unreal yet insane.”

We raised money after the 2015 earthquake and gave it to him direct as he has studied disaster management and he helped rebuild his village after that event. He used the money to build latrines first so that disease would not cause further problems. We trust his judgement to use money wisely. Nothing will be spent on admin.
