    Story

At Fair Football, we understand that changing prejudicial attitudes requires more than just saying that you will try to educate people, be they members of the public on discriminatory issues. While such basic educational approaches from anti-discrimination companies are well intentioned, they may often serve to inadvertently highlight difference rather than promote inclusivity. Indeed, current approaches appear to involve individuals seeking to educate communities and sports people on concepts that they do not truly understand themselves. We see this as a serious problem and a glaring missed opportunity.

At Fair Football we are very proud of the fact that our educational sessions are driven by state of the art research involving experts at one of the country’s most prestigious universities – the University of Warwick. We have conducted research which has never before been explored. Indeed, it is our focus on both cultural change and research that we believe makes Fair Football unique. Our sessions engage with children and communities, enabling them to respect different viewpoints and become open to new perspectives. Importantly, while this learning experience will be set in the context of football, naturally the aim is for the participants to apply these lessons to their lives in general. Areas of focus include stereotyping, cultural prejudice, perception, but to name a few,

Our goal is to not just leave people with some superficial understanding of, for example, what racism or sexism is, but to give them a deep appreciation of why people hold racist and sexist attitudes. In essence, we want people to build an understanding of why they think the way they do and why they see others as different. This solid mental platform will encourage an awareness and respect that many in our society simply do not possess. Our in depth, focused and research driven approach is the only way to stimulate cultural change and it is a more than worthwhile project.

I left school without any GCSEs. As a result, I worked abroad helping immigrants, expats, international students etc., adapt to their new lives overseas. I then decided to study a Bachelors and Masters in culture, racism and discrimination to develop research and raise awareness.
