    Story

Last November 2015 my partner Raymond suffered a single punch which fractured the side of his skull knocked him unconscious and caused multiple bleeds on the brain. The pressure on his brain was dangerously high so he had to have a bolt and drain put into the front of his skull. This didn't work so the next operation was to have the entire front part of his skull removed. Raymond would have to remain without the front part of his skull for a few months. Over the next few days we was told to prepare ourselves for the worse as anyone with his type of injury would be lucky to survive. Raymond started to make steady progress, In his recovery he started eating & talking. He could move most parts of his body, it felt like we had part of him back. He was ready to temporarily move to a local hospital where he would wait for a place in a rehabilitation unit. Raymond was only at this hospital for 2 weeks before he had 3 falls out of bed even though he was supposed to be on 24 hour care. He started to become unwell again and his head swelled. He was transferred back to the specialist hospital, where he started to lose consciousness and it was decided he would have a shunt put into the bottom of his spine. This didn't work so the only thing left to try was to remove that shunt and for him to have a shunt in his skull. This worked and he started to gain consciousness. Raymond is now in a rehabilitation unit but the last time we heard him speak was in February 2016. He has just started to eat soft food but cannot drink and not really able to move.We have 2 children aged 11 and 3 who are desperate to have their Daddy home. At this stage his needs are cared for but that will cease in the next few months. With 2 small children and any savings we had already used its impossible to fund the type of equipment and help that ray so desperately needs.

My family has been torn apart by a horrendous situation that left my partner with a traumatic brain injury, my 2 young boys without their father around and our future unknown. The only thing I can be certain of our lives will never be the same again.
