    Story

    Hi there,

Welcome to the LBS 3 Peaks Challenge page for Stream B.

We have chosen to raise money for The RCD Foundation (Australia). We choose to support this charity as it is an extremely worthy cause and one that is particularly close to me and my family.

The RCD foundation is named after a young man from my high school, Robert Connor Dawes, who passed away when he was 17 from brain cancer. The charity was started by his mum in 2013, and the foundation's mission is to provide funds and support in three major areas related to paediatric brain cancer: research, development, and care.

Brain cancer is the most fatal of all childhood cancers. Current clinical treatments only help 50% of children, but leave 90% with lifelong physical and mental impairments. The RCD foundation's mission is to change these odds.

To raise money and awareness, an exceptional group of my fellow MBA students and friends will climb the 3 highest mountains in the UK in under 24 hours on September 17th. Team members include Jodie Moir, Alex Barrett, Laure Kroely, Olga Shoraka, Patrick Walsom, Roman Oyarzun, Whitney Vellequette, Janine (JY) Lee, Elliot Solomon, Ishaan Shah, Andres Cavallo, Marco Zarzur, Sylvia Kong, Rob Cookson, and many others!

We will begin the challenge in Scotland at Ben Nevis, the highest mountain in the UK (1,344m), then drive south into the Lake District where we will climb Scafell Pike (978m). The final of the three is the Welsh mountain, Snowdon (1,085m). In total this will amount to 42km of walking and 3,400m of climbing in 24 hours.

All £ raised will stay in the UK and support Professor Richard Gilbertson’s work on ependymoma/paediatric brain cancer at Cambridge University. You can find out more about Professor Gilbertson and childhood cancer research here:

    http://scienceblog.cancerresearchuk.org/2015/11/26/expert-opinion-professor-richard-gilbertson-talks-childrens-cancers/

Lastly, if you would like a 'Connor's Climb' t-shirt (cost is ~£9) please email me at tpriestley.mba2018@london.edu. They look sweet!

Thank you in advance for any donations,

Tom Priestley (on behalf of Stream B)

As a Brighton Grammar School alum, it would have been impossible for me to not be involved in Connor's run. Having participated for a number of years in Melbourne, I wish to continue my participation streak abroad and raise money in the fight against cancer.
